Dear Life
Dear Life, what can I say
As I walked through your maze
I just wanted to get through each day
Keeping your monsters at bay
Following rules that society betrays
Dear Life what can I say
Yes, I ‘oft went astray
For your goals I could never appraise
I just wanted to get through each day
Well, I was no Dorian Grey
Yet I never lived by society’s clichés
Dear Life, what can I say
Now I’ve come to the end of your lay
I assure you I look upon this age in a daze
I just wanted to get through each day
Again as when I was young, revolution’s on the way
Can’t help wondering if you just like constant replays
Dear Life, what can I say
I just wanted to get through each day.
Being a woman of a certain age, I really appreciated this.

Perhaps we were protesting together way back when or at least feeling good about what our fellows were doing…now it seems like a hopeless re-run. An we had the Beatles, Stones and Jefferson Airplane! 😉 understand completely if you’re my age.

Love the theme here and I AM that old to appreciate all that we tried to do (sigh) and pleased to discover a new form in poetry…very nice, it reads so nicely.

Funny I was thinking about that yesterday taking a photo of a tree; I’d rather lose my hearing anytime than my sight…oh my, I think of that often and feel so blessed to see such beauty all around.

That has been my “since a kid” fear that I keep under control…the other came as I grew older…Believe it or not I have a great collection of audio books precisely because I have this vague fobia…

And sometimes that’s all we can do . . . get through one more day. Poetry expresses such deep emotions and perspectives. Thanks for sharing.

Viv ‘la revolution! Everything about life is cyclic, which can be both frustrating and reassuring. I liked how you seemed both, but closed each stanza/thought with a casual What can I sya? or Just wanted to get through each day. X

I think as I’ve gotten older, idealism has gone farther and farther away from my life yet I can remember the great days when one really thought that one could change something of the worse aspects of life…now I see some of my young people going along the same path and I can’t help but sigh.
