The Speakeasy: Free Verse – Faithless Knight

pomegrantes and castle

Faithless Knight

She closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
Then walked the steep mountainous path,
(Wondering about her lover’s request,
The Dragon King watched over her from afar.

He sweetly sang a strange lullaby,
She’ then closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
She fell  right into an enchanted dream.
(Her sleep looked something close to death)

The knight would have stolen her kingdom, then
He thought she’d fallen from the mountain side.
Opening her eyes she quite understood
That the Dragon King had just saved her life!

“Faithless knight you wanted my throne!
By dumping me down the mountain side!
But Dragon King sang his lullaby!
And saved me thus, from falling below!”

Young Dragon King of nobel lineage,
Married the Queen of gracious beauty.
Wisely they reigned and were quite happy.
(The knigh went to work cleaning the stables,
For the King and the Queen were very clement.)

Written for: Yeah Write!  The Speakeasy…And of course this is fiction 😉
