Sedoka
taiko and flute
blessing this cold day with warmth
rhythmic tapping smile
drummer and flutist
on my iPod make me skip
warming winter sun
This was born from an inspiring piece of music that Chevrefeuille introduced this morning on his post Carpe Diem Haiku Kai:
I noticed of course that in the prompt Chevrefeuille wrote two haiku for the music, so I too did the same…but I put them together and so it’s now a Sedoka 🙂 I’ve often seen Carpe Diem Haiku Kai over the weeks and have been inspired by the prompts which are very imaginative and stimulating. If you want to try your hand at haiku…and more perhaps, I think that you might enjoy this blog too. Have a look.
Happy Sunday! Bastet.
Cleverly done, enjoyed!

Yes, I did. I really liked it. 🙂 It conjured for me an image of peace and spirituality… but I wrote a simple plain haiku as my response.

I love this! And the music is quite hypnotic I think.
Now, what is a tanka then? I thought that was a double haiku; I get very confused!! 😄

No…a tanka is a 5 line poem; 5-7-5-7-7 syllables. a sedoka is practically a double haiku which should be able to stand as two singles but compliment each other making a more complete poem, if you go and get a copy of the Paperbook Collective issue 5 , it should come out some time today, I wrote a small article about this there with examples. http://thepaperbookcollective.com/the_paperbook_collective/

sedoka is cool. I’m learning that as with haiku and senryu, the sedoka sometimes is one thing for one person and another for someone else…interesting though. 😉
