Men and Women – Haibun

Men and women sleep on the same pillow, but they have different dreams. (Mongolian Saying)

Men and Women

“Have you read this book?  It’s entitled:’Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus’?” Julia asked her boyfriend Thomas.

“No, but I’ve heard about it.  Sounds pretty simplistic if you ask me.  I mean…these relationship books…well you know how I feel about them.”

“Yes, but you must admit there’s something in this stuff.  Here, listen to this: ‘Men are motivated when they feel needed while women are motivated when they feel cherished.’.”

“That’s just what I mean…you get the impression that men only want to be useful…but I assure you a little cherishing wouldn’t demotivate me!”

“I guess you’re right about that one. It is a pretty old book, but it seems to make a lot of sense.”

“Horoscopes do too.  What I’m saying is, that if you go general, anything sounds plausible.  I think we should just stop trying to define everything. I mean it’s nothing new that people have discovered that men and women are differently motivated sometimes.”

“Yes that’s true, and I have to admit I don’t much like the idea of getting pigeon-holed again like women did in the past!”

She put the book away and started fixing the lamp that had gone on the blink while he began cooking dinner.
