Karma Flowers – Haibun Thinking

Walking along the pier, contemplating the years that had slipped away, Giulia felt at peace with her life.  Her children were now grown, and two of them had children of their own.  She lived in a house that was her own property, in a community that seemed to be an oasis, compared to the rest of the country.

She felt the ache in her knees and thought about her friend telling her long ago that sleeping under the stars would give her arthritis…she was probably right, Giulia thought, but ah those stars were just so beautiful.  Funny, Giulia thought, karma is so interesting…you reap what you sow, and you don’t even have to die to get the fruits of your labor!

She looked at the analysis that had just come back from the lab.  Yeah, she was really falling apart. She sighed.

The phone rang.  “Ciao Mom! Got a minute…I just though we could talk a little if you’ve got time.”

Time, she thought then said: “Sure, I’ve got all the time in the world!” and she smiled.

  1. A touching post, Georgia! “you reap what you sow, and you don’t even have to die to get the fruits of your labor!” isn’t that the truth. You tell such a meaningful story in few words.
