Elfje (shaken not stirred 😉 )
the child’s eyes
sweet midday nap
my eyes, heavy
wanting only to dream,
Birds still at midday, all is silent, as we nap in June’s summer heat.
summer heat invites
young and old to slumber
in cool shadows
sea breeze lulls to sleep
dreaming of gulls and sail boats
I sleep away the heat
When I was a child, I never liked to have to sleep in the day-time, though my mother did. Coming to Italy and then living in Africa, I grew to appreciate the “siesta”, eventually and now, as I sit in the afternoons, ostensibly reading in my easy chair…I often find I’ve taken a nap. 😉
life circles ’round
sleep the adults like children
in the midday heat
I’ve written this haiku mix for Carpe Diem Haiku Kai # 454 … Midday Nap and NaPoWriMo 2014
I know you won’t believe it, but I actually prefer the shadorma to the haiku. But all are lovely.
I’m not actually surprised…the shadorma are a little less hermetic and less rigid.
Makes me want to crawl back into bed. 😀
You are so good at all of them. I tried the new forms you put on the prompt this week but I felt totally inept…may try when my brain is less in a fog 🙂
The Elfje is a little difficult, but put your haiku thinking cap on and it’ll come about 😉 In the meantime…did you have a relaxing weekend, I do hope so! 🙂
Yep, I did, thank you for asking, Georgia. I took the day off today too so 3 days of rest was lovely.
Ah…that’s my girl. There comes a time when we have to know when to just lie back and relax. Have a good one tomorrow!
