spring is in the air
the birds are all courting now
they chortle and sing
looking for material
to build their summer’s nest
blackbirds, my favorites
sing out in the early morn
but sparrows are fun
they play tag on my terrace
in their loving hide and seek
ducks squawk on the lake
swans twine necks on the water
the swallows returned
from their winter homes down south
the coo-coo’s call fills the air.
spring is in the air
bird joy fills my eyes and ears
life renews the land

Love the poem. Birds are always a favorite symbol to see.

This is beautiful — so many ways we’re enriched by birds in our lives!
Sparrows *are* a lot of fun. And as much as I used to hate the grackles (our version of blackbirds) I love them now. Aggressive, but comical and very bright.
Great poem Georgia!

Hmmm…I’m not sure your blackbirds are the same family as mine. Seems like many in North America mixed them up with crows, basically because the European blackbird doesn’t have a counterpart that I know of in North America, although a lady wrote to me about some red-winged blackbirds, but I don’t remember where she was writing form…Glad you liked the poem in any case.

We have red-winged blackbirds, but they show up in more rural areas. When I went through Gettysburg they were *everywhere*. In town we only get grackles and crows. The crows would ordinarily be more “rural” too but they love roosting at the cemetery up the street. Guess I was referring more to function than to actual scientific-bird-family. If that makes sense! o.O
Anyway …. the poem is beautiful 🙂

Thanks Jen. Crows and ravens have a particular connotation in Europe…and it’s not odd you’d find them in cemetaries. Glad you liked the poem.

Same connotation here — “quoth the raven, Nevermore!”
Odd though – Baltimore’s football team (American football, not soccer) is the Ravens. Wonder what Poe would think of THAT?!? 😉

Scavengers? Think their basball team chose a cooler bird… 😉

MUCH cooler! Though the Ravens’ purple uniforms are pretty.

…. too bad I hate football (American football, that is).
Did I say that???? Drop your rocks, Americans! I’m sorry! 😉

LOL…never seen much in the game myself, but once I went to one with my sis who loves them…and found “tailgating” fun. 😉

Tailgating is probably the *only* fun part! IMHO, baseball is even more boring than football. zzzzz. (Shall I hand over my “American as Apple Pie” ID card? What kind of lousy American am I?) 😉
Give me soccer and ice hockey any day.

LOL…I have to agree that unless you’re playing baseball yourself there is nothing more boring…but alas, I live in Italy, so I’m as American as Pizza Pie 😉

Lovely poem. The birds are so wonderful! Did you ever see the old clip about the composer who wrote down the music of birds perched on wires? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoM4ZZJ2UrM
