summer heat
walking near the creek
a cloud of gnats
hazy hot day
the creek hid beneath the trees
children splashing
walking alone
the lively creek burbles
invitingly cool …
children’s bubbling laugher
evokes old memories

gorgeous – the joy of kids and sweet memories — and the agony of the gnats! 🙂

An inviting set, Georgia, although I’ll pass on the gnats. 🙂 I like “burbling” and “bubbling”; they’re so evocative.

Thanks Janet … I think we’d all like to pass on the gnats. I like to use onomatopoeics they’re fun and as you say evocative. 🙂 Georgia.

If on the creek could tell its stories of all the children who have splashed and lovers who have cooled their feet. Wonderful haiku and picture

Love your haiku, Georgia…bringing me back to my childhood. That photo would be the exact scene near the kitchen of our cottage. Wow! this brought back nice memories and I could hear the water as well feel the coolness standing by the side not brave enough to dip my feet in the ice cold water.

That photo is one I used last year and it’s of our river Sarca, but in a particular area where the water runs low. I’m happy the haiku brought back nice memories. I too remembered playing in the creek near my house in New Jersey when I was a kid!

Hmm, they may not even notice that either. At least I can hope they don’t. I like to get mine drunk on red wine, and then they go quietly. LOL

LOL that’s about th most interesting way I’ve ever heard of getting rid of gnats, it’s certainly the most humane!

You just leave a finger width of red wine in the bottom of a bottle. They fly in, get tanked and can’t get back out. The wine has to be several days old to really work. You just stick it behind potted plant and bob’s your uncle. 🙂 No more fruit flies.
