I’ve always liked camels. I honestly haven’t been very near one, except to see them at a zoo. They seem so sedate, but I’ve heard they can be mean.When I was young, I wished I had a hump in which I could store up water so I wouldn’t have to go for a drink so often. I was not a normal child–and I grew up into not a normal adult!

I was especially drawn to these at the Sluderno Middle Ages event because they are real camels! Two humps not one … and I’d never seen one before only the one humped dromedaries! They are not serene beasts in fact as you’ve heard. I think it would be useful to have a hump of water in the desert and was fascinated too as a child with the idea! Thanks for sharing and I’m often pushed to wonder … what is normal?

Oh I love camels and used to imagine riding a camel in the dessert for days and days. Your haiku is lovely…I noticed you and Jen in this 30 day spin…(sigh) tempted I am but I can barely catch my breath…I stick with the ones I have for now.

Know what you mean … I’m just writing random now days … getting what i can get in a couple of hours. A real pain in the derrier 🙂 Glad you liked the haiga … i did the series last year and thought I go for year two. I’m glad that other’s are joining in, even if not every day.

I’m amazed that so much many people in your comment thread say they like camels. I rode one when I went to Petra – it was horrible! Really, really horrible. The camel I was on was really bad tempered and kept trying to take me into a ditch while the camel owner ambled along behind me thinking the whole thing was a great joke. Never again. 🙂

I agree with you Suzanne … met many a camel (well actually dromidaries) whilst in Somalia and Chad they are the pits … the nastiest creatures one can have the misfortune to meet. And camel drivers can be as bad too … they think it’s great fun that their camel is being naughty to someone else for a change. 😉

Never rode a camel, but I a friend of mine was in charge of them at the zoo. He said most of them were okay, but one was a jerk. The llamas were the ones you had to keep an eye out for in that place.

Camels and Dromidaries can be pretty horrible actually and they spit too! Don’t know anything about llamas … so I’d probably think they were sweet wooly cuddle toys 😉

It’s funny because my friend said he never saw spitting from the camels. A lot of yelling and they had a habit of stepping on people’s feet. It didn’t hurt since their feet are so padded, so he described it as a ‘do you mind, camel?’ situation.
