“We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.” Oscar Wilde
Under a melancholy drizzle
Damp and cloudy thoughts
Tied my rainbow happiness
Into somber dreary knots …
The grass is always greener
Is surely just a tired cliché but
My musings kept going there
As serenity flowed away …
“Where are all these wonderous stars …
Portents for luck and happiness?
Ah – hidden behind the clouds
Under a melancholy drizzle …”
Then with the morning-tide …
Bright chirping of birds began
And just before the dawn of light
The clouds opened and I saw …
A smattering of stars
That lifted me from the gutter
Gone, anger and despair – I hailed
The glorious, bright morning.
Written for Mindlovesmisery’s Menagerie using the words from OctPoWriMo’s prompt of October 19.
“The clouds opened and I saw …
A smattering of stars
That lifted me from the gutter
Gone, anger and despair – I hailed
The glorious, bright morning.”
Love! Excellent job Georgia XD

Me too, I read a lot of his plays in high school. My grandmother used to read them together and we’d try to do it with flair lol

Nice, ma’am. Gonna have to come back and have a look-see at that video.
Morning’s just coming to late now-a-days as winter hankers down.
I surely believe in the shade there was some frost. But the stars were bright at six this morn.

Lucky you … my stars were dimmed (yesterday and today) by low misty clouds … though the day turned out sunny and bright, so might do the same today … glad you dropped in … and remember, we’ll be putting our clocks back in line with nature soon (unless you don’t live under the tyranny of DST) 😉

Awe I forgot about foolin’ with the dad bern’ clock.
We’ve shifted to a six months on, six months off deal. We here changem up Nov. 2.
What a pain. The original plan was to help someone, maybe farmers. But we don’t need it now. Only two states don’t bother, and that’s Arizona and Indiana. But it just messes everybody up for weeks.

I’m not fond DST either .. here they said it was for the factory workers … I agree, it’s a real pain and just mucks stuff up!

Oh and when my sister lived in Indiana, part of the state went DST and the other didn’t … now I call that even more goofy!

Yeah, I lived there a tad before the twit split up the state. I read about it and darn near split a seam.
Glad to be out of there. Gees what stupidity to have two time zones in one state. I guess I could understand the northern parts wantin’ to be on the same time as the big city that was close by. But really?? Somebody was sittin’ on their brains big time that day to allow different towns to decide for themselves. At least that’s what I recall reading. Not sure if any of it got straight or well just went plain ‘south’.

What a beautiful response Georgia — and combining prompts, too — you are so talented.
We might not see them — but the stars are always there — hang on to that vision 🙂

What a great poem, cara! That last stanza made me smile, how fitting this is to many who live in their “own” gutter. Thank goodness for nature…Mother is always comforting:)

I just reread this and these lines struck me this time:

How fascinating to see what one sees each time they read something.

I agree … to be fair to the writers we should go back for a second reading .. each visit (if the poem has a minimum of depth) is a new adventure … ah to have the time!
