The Mountain Sprite

Wandering
In the autumn woods
Pondering
Dreamily
A song came into my heart
Inspired by a sprite …

High in mountains living wildly
With a wisdom based in fire, she
Sings her spells and works her magic
Laughing, dancing with old phantoms …

With a hi lo dum di rum-ly
With a springing step in passing
Twinkling bright as bright moon beams, she
Howls in chorus with the stormlings.

Wake now, walk on in the mountains
Wade the rivers, walk the meadows
Meet the Lady where she wanders
Though you may not see her spirit.

High in mountains living wildly
With a wisdom based in fire, she
Sings her spells and works her magic
Laughing, dancing with old phantoms …

  1. Brava! I love it! My favorite lines: “Twinkling bright as bright moon beams, she / Howls in chorus with the stormlings.” Oooh — very shuddery stuff, milady! And if I may say so, you’re very perilously close to fornyrdislag here: “Wake now, walk on in the mountains / Wade the rivers, walk the meadows / Meet the Lady where she wanders / Though you may not see her spirit.” See all the alliteration here? It’s magnificent – has that epic feel that trochees can give you. Really brava — brava!!!

    • Thanks dear Jen … the trochee turned out to be harder to write than I thought it would be … I’m still having problems with the words – like trochee, iamb, pentameter, alliteration and yes dactyl … I do them often but somehow in my mind when I read those words in a prompt I go blank and go duh … like a moron. I’m glad you enjoyed it … once I actually got started it went like a dream and yes, I realized at a certain point that it began to sound rather fornyrdislagish at a certain point! Thanks so very much for your encouragement! 🙂

  2. I enjoyed this very much, Georgia! the music goes so well with it…the imagery is impacted by that music. The four stanza reads so darn well, quick, had to reread it becuase it is jam packed with so much! I am enjoying my visit here this morning)
