The library is my home away from home.

I visited my first library when I was 7 years old. I loved the quiet calm atmosphere, but most of all I was enchanted by the wall to wall, aisle upon aisle, of books. I’d always loved books and I had my collection of Golden Books, but that treasure-house of books was so magnificent, that I stood in ecstasy. The first book I checked out was Dr. Seuss’ “The Cat in the Hat”. How wonderfully different from my fairy tales. “Imagine that! A Cat in a Hat!”

    • I’ve never been to a mobile library, though I’ve read about them … the lovely thing about the library is you’ve got such a variety of books to choose from … big or small it is a magic place!

    • Dear Rochelle … quite correct i guessing this was a memoir … there were so may interesting points to work from in the photo … but the word library stopped me from seeing them until the story was done. Have a great weekend, Georgia

    • You just might be right there … certainly they’re people who read and love reading! I’d never heard of Krakel Spektakel, but I Googled and was able to find very little in English! I’ve read books by Astrid Lindgren for myself and to my children … wish I’d run across Lennart Hellsing’s works … sound absolutely delightful!

  1. Ah a lovely story…brings me back to my youth…the small crowded basement of city hall where only a few stacks of English books but I went every other week to take out books. I was so pleased to see the library at Concordia University…never in my life had I seen so many books in English.

  2. Dear Georgia,

This was a beautiful story and i mean that in every sense of the word. It brought back memories and put a smile on my face. Writer’s reward of the best sort. Well done.

  3. Dear Georgia, Wonderful story and brings back good memories! My boys loved the Dr. Seuss books, “The Cat in the Hat” and “Green Eggs and Ham” I memorized because I read it so many times – but they enjoyed all! I’m smiling! Nan 🙂

  4. Georgia, Sorry I’m so late with this. I had internet problems. Sweet story. I remember my first trip to the library also. I was also about seven. Great memories. Well written. 🙂 — Susan

    • Dear Susan, I live in Italy … so if there’s anyone who can understand the problems with Internet it is I .. thanks for passing by and reading the piece, I’m happy we have shared memories 🙂 – Georgia.
