young lovers
discover sprigs of mistletoe
early harvest
mistletoe
winds around the tree
lover’s embrace
protected
the bulb sleeps under straw
a daffodil sprouts
in a crib
fresh straw laid out
a child’s birth

Since the Birth was rather an urgent affair, I can’t help but wonder if the straw was fresh, or if Mary and Joseph just used what was available. (Sorry, I couldn’t refrain!)

(No problem) .. if the story is true, I think there would be a bit of doubt as to the “freshness” of the “barn” in general … and it wouldn’t have been straw in the manger I, think but hay, because that’s where the cows eat and they don’t eat straw.

I liked them all, but particularly the one about the daffodil, a symbol of renewal.
When I learned that mistletoe was parasitic, it made sense to me. It wraps itself around trees the way love wraps itself around a person’s heart, and no good can come of it.

Well … I wasn’t quite working for that metaphor, though I am conscious that very often this is the case. Thanks for your deep comment!
