Sleeping With Butterflies

Walking through a dream – a vision came to me, of a youth surrounded by butterflies. Was he then, a bloom waiting to be pollinated? Could he have been my ideal of spring beauty? Delicate as a young girl in dormant serenity, his was the innocence of a child sleeping, but somehow, a sense of anxiety filled my soul.

You do sort of want to protect this young one, don’t you? This is a haibun to read over a couple times. The idea of someone being a bloom waiting to be pollinated is quite an interesting image ….
Nicely done 🙂

Thanks … I was attracted to the photo, but then when I sat down to write the haibun … I was perplexed. The butterflies actually seem to be consuming the lad … gave me the shivers … and my mind went to reflecting about our youth … innocent and full of ideals ready to be plucked by society’s avarice and avidity.

Very true. Innocent ideals don’t stand a chance, it seems …

Nope … it’s a sad reality, we’ve created a Parana society sigh.

Thanks .. I found the photograph sort of spooky in the end … which affected the haibun I guess.

In reflection of all that has been said, your wonderful haibun included; you remind me that most children in today’s world have precious little time to be children. Kindergarten used to be a transition from home to school. Now because so many parents have to work day care and pre-school are that prep time and Kindergarten becomes just another rigid academic grade.
Even when my own children were in Kindergarten over thirty years ago they had barely any time to actually play and explore. They were given ‘homework’ packets’ on Fridays to return on Monday’s – And then you have other schools that have no homework at all (or too much) there needs to be a balance to allow for exploration without dampening natural curiosity.

Of course you’re completely correct … at least we’re not sending them to the fields or factories .. in our part of the world and for the most part.

This touched me the way it did Jules. The image is a bit disturbing.

I do so agree if one really reflects upon it.
