Shaded by Blossoms – May 14, 2015

Credits: Yamato Province, Woodblock print

Travelling in Yamato Province, I stayed overnight in a farmer’s house. The master of the house was very kind and hospitable.

During on of Basho’s first pilgrimages, when he travelled alone, he often found hospitality.  In this haiku he praises the beauty of his host’s garden but also his kindness.  We’ve all at one time or another been travelling and hosted by a kind soul who makes us feel at home, so, I’ll write about that sensation (or will try to).

At my son’s house in Padua, last Friday, we set under his persimmon tree on the evening of my arrival.

  1. I love them both!! And now since my discovery of this tree last year here, I can imagine this beautiful image and float in my dreamy land to the melodies of Vivaldi! Bravo, ma chère…chin-chin 🙂
