August winds and storms
the turning point of summer
autumn’s calling cards
burnt earth refreshed
the wine will soon be pressed
autumn’s calling cards
lighting the fire
in the evening to keep warm
autumn’s calling card
no more cherries
blackberries have all withered
autumn’s calling cards
another summer’s passing
see the first golden leaf
autumn’s calling card

a cool wind
summer passes
before it begins
late summer
even hotter by the breath
of dragonflies
mid-summer
the sadness of knowing
days grow shorter

naked
between summer flowers
dreaming of next summer
tears shed
on my naked body …
summer is passing

I liked the repetition in this cascading work — it tied each haiku together very nicely.
[summer passing already … waaaahhhh!]
nicely done

Well … actually I thought the prompt rather premature … but heh, who am I to discuss. Glad you liked the repetition, that’s one of the poetic “instruments” (can’t remember the proper term right now) that I like the best and rarely get to use.

I can’t remember now either …. o.O
But hey. The weather here has been 90 degrees and 80,000% humidity ( LOL! ) so it certainly feels like summer has been jump-started! 🙂

Same over here … seems like August used to feel … way back when!

Pretty soon it’ll be too hot for the woods.
[Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!]
Nah. Never that hot. Pretty darn close though.

Well … actually hope it never gets THAT hot … here things have cooled off, we’ve had the classical storm that dropped the temps from 38°C to 18° C … makes the poem feel kind of prophetic to me now ….

Wow…. quite a drop!!!!
We’re expecting this heat and rain all week. Sadly.

It’s still chilly but the temps are back up in the 20s

Love the repetition, and the line “autumn’s calling card” is distinctive, elegant.

Thanks Dell … repetition is one of my favourite rhetorical devices (if I can call it that) ..

Mine too, though I tend to use it sparingly–usually when working from a form which specifically requires it. But now that we’re chatting about it, I might relax and use it more often! Thanks!

I too use them sparingly mostly because as you say, they don’t always fit in but I love them just the same …

I think they often serve to anchor a reader’s attention…if they’ve a mind to wander…

That’s probably true too … but it also adds something of the song to a poem.
