summer passing – cascading haiku – June 16, 2015

olive grove

August winds and storms
the turning point of summer
autumn’s calling cards

burnt earth refreshed
the wine will soon be pressed
autumn’s calling cards

lighting the fire
in the evening to keep warm
autumn’s calling card

no more cherries
blackberries have all withered
autumn’s calling cards

another summer’s passing
see the first golden leaf
autumn’s calling card

a cool wind
summer passes
before it begins

late summer
even hotter by the breath
of dragonflies

mid-summer
the sadness of knowing
days grow shorter

naked
between summer flowers
dreaming of next summer

tears shed
on my naked body …
summer is passing

  1. I liked the repetition in this cascading work — it tied each haiku together very nicely.

    • Well … actually I thought the prompt rather premature … but heh, who am I to discuss. Glad you liked the repetition, that’s one of the poetic “instruments” (can’t remember the proper term right now) that I like the best and rarely get to use.
