First Day of Autumn – Kyrielle Poem – September 22, 2015

As I walk under the hot sun
I think of autumn, just begun
And reflect upon sweet new wine
Not on inevitable decline.

Indian summer warms me still
There is no hint of winter’s chill –
I bow in life’s ever-green shrine
Not in inevitable decline.

True, the season will soon turn grey
As shorter grows each passing day
Leaves will fall but I will not pine
Not for inevitable decline.

In this season of decline, sing
About joys of eternal spring
Think of young lovers still entwined
Not of inevitable decline.

    • Thanks so much Paloma. I usually don’t have many problems writing Kyrielles but the day before yesterday the thing just didn’t want to come off. I had to put it aside and finally got it to gel yesterday.

        • Thanks Jen glad you think I rock, but to be truthful having dedicated so much time to tanka and haiku I found it difficult to get back into “prosody” which doesn’t make me very happy … I do hope this stale period (writing wise) passes quickly and I really miss your poetic contributions (and your prose too).

          • I understand completely. Really need to get back into prosody … but I just can’t make that leap these days. It’ll happen … some day ….

            Really sick today though so it might not be today 😦

            It’s good to be missed though. I’ll try to do better.

            Here’s hoping the muses will be kinder to us soon!!!!

          • Darn … i’m sorry to hear your sick … and I hope it isn’t anything lasting! I really had to clamp down on myself to get that kyrielle out … I think I’ll have to start doing a poem a day to build up my muse’s muscles .. lazy thing. Hugs and lots of chocolate to help you get well soon!

            Going to try to finish a tanka and then moving on to Netflix … where a friend has recommended something fun 🙂
