at last … autumn

leaves shimmer in the light
autumn is here
yet the sparrow is pining

One of my favorite words is “shimmer”–I have to restrain myself from over-using it!

Mine too … maybe you noticed … am I overusing it lately?

Oh NO, not at all! I just saw it and thought how often I reach for it, then have to choose another word–I have a bunch of those faves that come to mind automatically, and it’s a nuisance to have to think hard, find equal or better “gems”. Not good when the brain is tired, but I don’t want to close up shop yet!

Don’t we all have those special words … I often have to do the same thing in fact … one of my pet words recently has been shimmering … so I was just wondering … thanks for the reassurance …

Your ability to string words together is awesome, so I suspect even the words you might reach for first would look shiny new, due to your arrangement of them. I never tire of reading your poems–they’re so rich, “rich” being one of my over-used words…but yet it’s so apt, each time I use it, so that’s a conundrum…argghh 🙂

Ah … I know where your going and thanks a lot .. I’ve often read poets who’ve used the same concepts and words over and over again … and yet their poetry is wonderful to read … thanks J!

You’re welcome! You may be familiar with Richard Ankers work, here on WP–partially due to memory issues, but also because of his passion for several fave themes, he can write over and over about the same things, and yet it’s always fresh and silver-winged. I never tire of it. That is something I’m pondering, trying to acquire more facility with–as I have some repetitive themes.
