“jujubes and persimmons”
What an interesting food combination — a strongly visual and expressive shadorma.

They can be found ripening right now in our fields. The jujubes are more a traditional sort of fruit, and are rarely actually found in a store any more whereas the persimmons now have very many new hybrid qualities, some of which are already on the market shelves.

I was thinking, too, of a penny candy called jujubes — hard (versus todays soft) gummy candy — licorice or anise flavoured, or multi — Haven’t see a penny candy counter in years.

Ah … I think maybe I have heard about them … we do have candy stands in the street markets and fairs .. including candy you can buy at weight instead of being packaged. My son has a jujube tree and a persimmon tree in his garden .. that’s why they come to mind for me in autumn.

What does the jujube tree fruit taste like. Curious me.

it’s a tart fruit … and an acquired taste from my point of view … when it gets really ripe the skins turn brown and they are sweeter much kind of grainy. I preferred looking at them or writing about them rather than eating them 😉

Thanks .. I love that particular view from Padua which always brings me back to the simple pleasures of autumn fruits.
