The Public Fountain – Kyrielle – April 29, 2016

Water fountain_2_signed

drops of water in this fountain
blow in the wind now forgotten
no one can hear them any more
and none can see the river roar

days and nights pass, tumbling by
(even the fountain will grow dry)
all some day will pass through that door
where none can see the river roar

human endeavours, often fine
fall to decay as they decline
then war blossoms from hates of yore
’cause none can see the river roar

neglected fountain by the road
once a marvel – fresh water flowed
quenching the thirst of rich and poor
but now, none see the river roar

“It seems to me what is called for is an exquisite balance between two conflicting needs: the most skeptical scrutiny of all hypotheses that are served up to us and at the same time a great openness to new ideas.

Openness is an overarching concept or philosophy that is characterized by an emphasis on transparency and free, unrestricted access to knowledge and information, as well as collaborative or cooperative management and decision-making rather than a central authority. Openness can be said to be the opposite of secrecy.

Alone with Marigold – Kyrielle Sonnet – March 11, 2016

Reflected in the wilderness
Hunger, thirst and then deep darkness
She walked alone with Marigold
Along her path both fine and bold.

To take give counsel she went north –
To her enemy she went forth –
Unto the city as foretold
Along her path both fine and bold.

She never fainted nor gave praise
But freedom’s banner she did raise
Her name was never known I’m told
Along her path both fine and bold.

Reflected in the wilderness
Along her path both fine and bold.

Mindlovesmisery’s Menagerie’s Photo Challenge and B&P’s Shadorma and Beyond – Kyrielle Sonnet

My Kyrielle Sonnet isn’t based upon anyone from the “real” world.  I just imagined how the once tiny girl in the photograph, from her childhood adventures with her cat might have grown into a bold decisive woman.

A Day In Lilliput

Black and white rain in Lilliput,
trickles like treacle in the hush,
as artists play their auto-harps
strumming on strings of vibrant blague.

Public servants and bigots crow,
each one in their own mellow key,
singing their songs of modesty
strumming on strings of vibrant blague.

Journalists and gallerists bray,
waving their arms around like birds,
pompously talking of their finds
strumming on strings of vibrant blague.

Black and white rain in Lilliput –
Strumming on strings of vibrant blague.

Now listen well in Lilliput,
as days progress in emptiness,
listen to the politicians
strumming these strings of vibrant blague.

In the colourless world of art,
“black and white” is all the rage now!
Empty Lore-lies – sing praises!
Strumming these strings of vibrant blague.

“Enough! Enough!”  A brave soul cries,
in hallowed tones of lullabies,
“Humpty Dumpty just fell again!
Strumming these strings of vibrant blague.”

Now listen well in Lilliput –
Strumming these strings of vibrant blague.

A Birthday Song for Valida – Kyrielle Sonnet – September 26, 2015

Celebrating life and living –
I sing for you this birthday song!
I sing of the love you’ve given –
Best wishes the whole yearlong!

Off to the party now we’ll go
[And early to avoid the throng]
We’ll sing and toast as candles glow –
Best wishes the whole yearlong!

A whole weekend of partying!
Our happiness thus we’ll prolong –
Eating, laughing and carolling:
Best wishes the whole yearlong!

Here’s to Valida – poetess …
May your muse be forever strong!
Three cheers for our loving hostess –
Best wishes the whole yearlong!

Celebrating life and living
Best wishes the whole yearlong!

First Day of Autumn – Kyrielle Poem – September 22, 2015

autumn gree

As I walk under the hot sun
I think of autumn, just begun
And reflect upon sweet new wine
Not on inevitable decline.

Indian summer warms me still
There is no hint of winter’s chill –
I bow in life’s ever-green shrine
Not in inevitable decline.

True, the season will soon turn grey
As shorter grows each passing day
Leaves will fall but I will not pine
Not for inevitable decline.

In this season of decline, sing
About joys of eternal spring
Think of young lovers still entwined
Not of inevitable decline.

Grey Mums – Double Kyrielle Sonnet – November 3, 2014

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Grey Mums

Standing in the cold rain all day
Wishing there were another way
She felt no joy, no spark of life
Grey were the Mums cut with her knife

He slashed out and he meant to hurt
He made her fell as cheap as dirt
Another day of useless strife
Grey were the Mums cut with her knife

Jaded feelings under fall’s clouds
No sun could burn away those shrouds
She was e’er a dutiful wife …
Grey were the Mums cut with her knife

Standing in the cold rain all day
Grey were the Mums cut with her knife

§§§

The hearse wove through the city streets
The crowd looked on in dark defeat
Laid serene in her bed of wood
It seems no on had understood

Pneumonia took away her breath
Leading to her untimely death
The doctors did all that they could
It seems no one had understood

Satisfied by the mourners, he
Knowing that he’d walk away free …
Selling Mums in the rain she’d stood
It seems no on had understood

The hearse wove through the city streets
It seems no on had understood

§§§

Standing in the cold rain all day
Grey were the Mums cut with her knife …
The hearse wove through the city streets
It seems no on had understood.

Winter will Blossom – Kyrielle Sonnet – October 30, 2014

Snow

Snow

And so, the morning waxes cold,
Autumn days have now grown old.
The season’s passage we can’t slow,
Winter will blossom with white snow.

Put warm duvets onto your beds,
Buy wooly hats for children’s heads
Sit by the fire, let north winds blow.
Winter will blossom with white snow.

November first ’tis All Saint’s day,
Winter cold won’t be held at bay.
Lovely ’tis the season’s tableau.
Winter will blossom with white snow.

And so,  the morning waxes cold,
Winter will blossom with white snow.

KYRIELLE SONNET

Just like the traditional Kyrielle poem, the Kyrielle Sonnet
also has a repeating line or phrase as a
refrain (usually appearing  as the last line of each stanza).
Each line within the Kyrielle Sonnet consist of only 8 syllables
French poetry forms have a tendency to link back to the beginning
of the poem, so common practice is to use the first and last line
of the first quatrain as the ending  couplet.
This would also re-enforce the refrain within the poem.
Therefore, a good rhyming scheme
for a Kyrielle Sonnet would be:
AabB, ccbB, ddbB, AB -or- AbaB, cbcB, dbdB, AB.

T’is the Night (Samhain) – kyrielle – October 29, 2014

T’is the Night (Samhain)

T’is the night when spirits visit
The djinn and afrits join the fun
We’ll built our bonfires high and dance
Then will come cold Calan Gaeaf

The harvest’s over – the grain’s stored
Now days grow shorter – cold winds blow
For a day spirits walk the earth
Then will come cold  Calan Gaeaf

We’ll go a guising Samhain night
Mix with the spirits with delight
Won’t think of winter’s long cold blight
Then will come cold Calan Gaeaf

T’is the night when spirits visit
The Djinn and afrits join the fun

Once upon a time, I wrote a poem for a friend’s challenge, it was supposed to be a Kyrielle Sonnet, but though I wrote with the prescribed stanza and syllables (meter) and repeated the first two lines to create the refrain –  I forgot to rhyme the poem.  She kindly suggested we call it a Bastet Kyrielle … so here’s a Bastet Kyrielle with a twist, the last line of the first three stanzas are repeated. This is to honor Samhain  (pronounced /ˈsɑːwɪn/ SAH-win or /ˈs.ɪn/ SOW-in[1] Irish pronunciation: [sˠaunʲ]) and the Welsh first day of winter Calan Gaeaf (pronunciation: sound link, which was this week’s Tale Weaver’s Prompt at Mindlovesmisery’s Menagerie

Sunday Whirl on Monday – Kyrielle Sonnet – September 22, 2014

The Old Miner

The crossed old grumpy miner
Sailed the wide ocean blue,
To keep his lady-love happy,
For she had a heart of gold …

She’d looked at him with an expression,
That would give you or I a chill,
One could see she’d give him hell,
Rather than live in the desert still …

Mind you now, she was quite docile ..
As far as gentle hell-cats go.
But she wanted to see merry England
And so a sailing they did go.

The crossed old grumpy miner
Sailed the wide ocean blue.

*this is a very loose kyrielle sonnet written for Sunday Whirl!   😉

What is the Prompt – June 26, 2014

100wcgu-7

On a bright or rainy day
I sit here and wonder what to say
As Pixelventures comes around
Or when I write for story day

But what is the prompt, I sit and think,
At times going near the brink,
Of frustration and despair,
Racking my brain trying to think

At last my muse gives me a hand …
There’s the answer my prompt’s planned!
Add the picture, write a rhyme –
Then hope that people will try their hand.

On a bright or rainy day
I sit here and wonder what to say …

This modified kyrielle sonnet was written for the wonderful prompt: 100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups – Week#138 …but what is the prompt
