And … I’m off (Just a Note) – August 20, 2015

Hello … it’s 6:15 and I’m putting the finishing touches to my blog before I leave … my suitcase is packed and sitting in front of the door waiting to be taken to the bus stop where I will catch my bus for Trento … there at around 11:00 I’ll meet my son and his lady-love (with her dog) and we’ll depart for the last leg of our trip to Sluderno.

Here are some of the things I’ll be using on site – unfortunately my knife and medieval scissors aren’t on hand to photograph as one of our lads is making leather sheaths for me to be able to carry them on my belt without committing hara-kiri. It was normal to carry a knife around with you in that period … for all classes of people, though the rich ladies tended to hide them carefully.  The knifes were used basically for eating not for fighting, but I guess in a pinch …

 

The sleeveless surcote that you see above on my smock or under-dress can also be worn on top of my cote or kirtle or however one calls one’s main dress … Under all this I wear modern garments … and I bought knee-high thin cotton socks to wear with my shoes … hoping no one will notice.

Ciao for now folks … and remember that though I’m not here physically, I’ve scheduled some posts right through the 24th – I forgot to post for the 25th but hope to be home and alive enough to post something.
