Morning Haiku and Waka – January 8, 2015

coffee pot

no milk today
a bitter day’s beginning
black coffee

crows and doves
making racket in the morning
coo coo – caw caw

snow’s melted
temperature minus five
cooling thoughts

contemplating dawn
even in the darkest hour
life warbles and coos

first morning light
today’s dawn seems so special
pink clouds billow
the wind is calm and still
nature promises peace

Escape – Haiku Vision Quest – November 21, 2014

d3ccd-silence2b28229
“A Vision Quest is a rite of passage, similar to an initiation, in some Native American cultures. It is a turning point in life taken before puberty to find oneself and the intended spiritual and life direction. It’s an ancient way to find your Inner Self and what your task is for this life in the way of opening your eyes to the spiritual world.
For this feature you have just 24 hours to respond, so in three days, you have to write three new haiku or senryu. Carpe Diem’s Vision Quest will take place once in a season.”
So this first episode is for autumn and we have a given word: escape:
one with nature
becoming nature again
escaped

Morning Haiku and Waka – October 16, 2014

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

here on my loggia
reflections of a new day
a sparrow twitters
a gun-shot in the distance
– lamp lights darken

going off to work
my neighbor’s car rumbles
– like a lonely bear

fire on the mountain
– tunnel to Lake Tenno
morning illusion

low hanging clouds
a worrisome distant rumble
– jet from Vienna

Wood Fire – Haiku Morning and Waka – October 9, 2014

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

autumn perfume
burning wood fireplaces
warming the morning

in the kitchen
the old wood stove warms water
crackling merrily

cold autumn morn
lighting the old wood stove
youthful memories

Sounds, Smells and Light – Morning Haiku and Waka – September 30, 2014

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAdawn fills the valley
with mystical pastel lights
the lake blushes

streaking pastel hues
behind the mountains lengthen
sparrows twitter

chitter-chattering
the sparrows swoop and swirl
ah – white cat hunting

– bells begin to ring
imagine the dawning morn
from the olive groves

awaiting breakfast
the room smells of banana
coffee and brioche

7:00 – Free Verse – September 13, 2014

Church bells ring the hour
each one chimes its own time,
creating echoes in the valley –
7:00 lasts for a while …

The birds are silent
not a sparrow, blackbird or crow
not even the cock crows –
there,
in the background –
traffic flows,
the factories moan,
and a helicopter
swoops over my house …

The sun  tops the Veiled mountain,
shrouded as always in its white robe,
light radiates off the rooves
in brilliance, silver bright,
puffs of vapor swirl in tiny clouds …

Wasps begin to buzz
a dog barks
there … in the distant woods
a bird chirps
ah – at last!
A new day has begun.
