A Single Dandelion – Free Verse (Wordeling) – June 30, 2015

a single dandelion
stood in that empty spot
next to an ancient
wooden spool
swaying

as I walked alone
along the coastal road –
aflame with wildflowers
and wanton red poppies –
I’d spotted it,
innocent and naif
in its coat
of ruffled yellow

and then …
it disappeared
into the darkness
after the last flaring
light of sunset

I’ll never know
if it was there
on the morrow
