The Monster and his Fleas

Petrichor arose from the fields
One dark starless night …
The emaciated monster
Sitting on a dry-stone wall
Wriggled his nose in contempt …
Disgustedly he muttered …
“We’re dearth of dryness
This horrid summer!”
Then clouted a tree with his club.
His fleas agreed,
Scathingly, as the rain
Washed away their brethren …
But with greater restraint.

    • Thanks … the poem wrote itself once I got past “Petrichor” … this has been such a wet summer that I could imagine the monster and his poor fleas lamenting the situation!
